Inaugural Women’s Cycling Tour started in Oundle and headed to Northampton for the destination of the first stage

Oundle hosted the start of the opening stage of The Women’s Tour on Wednesday 7th May 2014.
Setting off from Oundle’s Market Place the riders then headed to Northampton, the destination of the first stage of the tour.

The new five-day international stage race attracted the world’s top female cyclists to race against Britain’s Olympic heroines.

The Results

Sweden’s Emma Johansson fought off Olympic champion Marianne Vos and Great Britain’s Hannah Barnes in a sprint finish to win the first stage of the inaugural Women’s Tour of Britain.

Great Britain’s Olympic silver medallist Lizzie Armitstead led with 500m to go but faded to eighth.
